How to Read Card Prices: Market Price vs Low, Mid and High

What TCGplayer Market Price means, why listed low/mid/high prices can mislead, how variants like reverse holo change value, and how to price a card you want to buy or sell.

Every card page on PullMeter shows several price numbers from TCGplayer through the Pokémon TCG API. Knowing what each one means helps you avoid overpaying and price your own cards realistically.

Market Price: the number to trust most

TCGplayer's Market Price is based on recent completed sales, not asking prices. It's the closest thing to "what this card actually sells for" and it's the number we use for set values, rankings, movers and tools.

Low, Mid and High are listings

  • Low is the cheapest current listing. It can be a damaged copy or a lone bargain.
  • Mid sits in the middle of current listings.
  • High is the most expensive listing and is often meaningless. In our data you'll see common cards with a "high" of $999 because someone listed a copy at a silly price.
  • Direct Low is the cheapest listing eligible for TCGplayer Direct, when there is one.

Variants change the price

The same card number can exist as a normal print, a holofoil and a reverse holo, each with its own price. PullMeter shows every variant the data source reports, and uses the main printing as the headline price.

Condition matters

Market prices generally reflect Near Mint copies. Lightly played or worse cards usually sell for less, and graded cards follow their own separate market.

Check sold comps for big purchases

For expensive cards, check recent comps (sold listings) on more than one platform. Prices move fast after new set releases, tournaments and social media hype.

How fresh are our prices?

Every page shows the date the data source last updated its TCGplayer prices. We refresh our pages daily, but the upstream source may update less often. The Market Movers page compares each new snapshot to the previous one.
